The drive from Heathrow to Southampton

Southampton is about 66 miles south-west of Heathrow. The route follows the M25 south to junction 12, then the M3 all the way to Southampton. The drive usually takes about 1 hour 15 minutes outside the rush hour. On a clear road it is a straightforward motorway drive; on cruise days the roads near the docks are busy, so allow extra time.

Drop-off in Southampton

We drop off anywhere in Southampton, including the city centre (SO14), the five cruise terminals in the Eastern and Western Docks (berths and postcodes on our Southampton cruise port taxi page), the university at Highfield (SO17), Ocean Village and Southampton Central station. We also drive to Winchester, Eastleigh, Romsey and the New Forest.

Cruise passengers usually have big cases: an estate, MPV or 8-seater takes everyone's luggage.

Flying in for a cruise

Southampton calls itself Europe's leading turnaround cruise port, with five cruise terminals, and many cruise passengers fly into Heathrow from abroad. A taxi takes you, your cases and your party from the terminal straight to the ship.

Leave enough time between landing and boarding: flights can be late and the roads into the port are busy on turnaround days. If your flight lands on the morning of departure, tell us and we will plan the pick-up with you.

At the end of your cruise, book your pick-up from the cruise terminal back to Heathrow for £140 in a saloon, with nothing extra for the drop-off.

Meeting your driver

At Heathrow your driver waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal (2, 3, 4 or 5) with a name board. Their name, car and phone number come by text before you land. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups at the kerb, so the car is parked in the terminal's short stay car park, a short walk away. For pick-ups at Heathrow, the airport's £8 parking charge is added to the price and shown before you book. Drop-offs at Heathrow have nothing extra to pay.
